The Master of Arts is made up of postgraduate courses that extend and deepen students' existing skills, knowledge and understanding in professionally relevant fields of study, as well as teaching advanced skills in research and analytical thinking. It is equally suitable for people wishing to switch to an academic or professional field different from the one they studied at undergraduate level. The MA can serve as a pathway to higher degree research for students who have not completed a four year BA(Honours) with a research component in the relevant area of study.

Applicants without a strong mathematical background may be advised to complete the Institute of Actuaries Foundation course, and demonstrate adequate mathematical performance on the self-assessed test.
Session 2 courses in Actuarial Studies assume that students have the required background knowledge from previous studies. Prospective students who plan to commence in Session 2 should consult the Actuarial Studies School office prior to application in order to determine if they have the required background. Students who have a very strong background in Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics or Finance and Financial Mathematics may be allowed to enrol in the 2nd session Actuarial Studies courses. Approval must be obtained from Actuarial Studies before enrolling in these courses.

Graduates in mathematics, engineering and science disciplines who are interested in applying their mathematical skills in business can study courses to prepare them for an actuarial career. Graduates from commerce and economics disciplines can also study courses to allow them to enter the actuarial profession in the program. Commerce and economics graduates will be required to have a strong mathematical background, such as would be obtained from studying econometrics, mathematical economics or mathematical finance.
For graduates of an undergraduate program in Actuarial Studies, the Master of Actuarial Studies allows them to complete courses equivalent to the Part I professional courses that they have yet to complete. They can also complete the Part II courses of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia and include optional courses to assist with the later professional Fellowship examinations. They can also broaden their actuarial training by including relevant courses in the Faculty at postgraduate level in other disciplines through selection of electives.
The Master of Actuarial Studies allows graduates to obtain and develop the required competencies to enter an actuarial career and provides quantitative risk management training for entry into the financial services industry. The program covers the professional actuarial subjects and includes options in actuarial studies, quantitative risk management, and other related disciplines.
A candidate for the degree shall have been awarded an appropriate degree of Bachelor from the University of New South Wales or a qualification considered equivalent from another university or tertiary institution at a level acceptable to the Committee.
An applicant who submits evidence of such other academic or professional attainments as may be approved by the Committee may be permitted to enrol for the degree.
When the Committee is not satisfied with the qualifications submitted by an applicant the Committee may require the applicant, before being permitted to enrol, to undergo such examination or carry out such work as the Committee may prescribe.
This is the main Masters level research program for postgraduate students in the Faculty of Medicine. Candidates must demonstrate ability to undertake research by the submission of a thesis embodying the results of an original investigation. The program may be undertaken either with or without supervision.
Applicants should contact the School before applying for admission in order to identify a research field and a potential academic supervisor. Entrance Requirements: Honours degree (Class 2/1 or first class) in an appropriate field or equivalent performance in a Higher Degree Qualifying Program or Graduate Diploma by research.
Duration of Course: The normal enrolment period is 2 years (4 academic sessions) for full time students..
A recognised undergraduate degree (or equivalent) in taxation, law or commerce with a credit average, as determined by the Australian School of Business plus the completion of the GradDipCA from ICAA.For those applicants who did not complete a university level course of study in taxation as part of their undergraduate degree, they may be required to complete a qualifying course prior to admission to postgraduate studies (TABL5901).The requirement of the Postgraduate Qualifying Program may be imposed even in cases where the candidate holds the GradDipCA.
The Master of Applied Taxation has been developed in partnership with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia (ICAA). The principal objective of the program is to provide a taxation study program that meets the developmental requirements of chartered accountants in Australia and throughout the Asia-Pacific region. This program offers two areas of specialisation:
1. Applied Taxation and,
2. Applied Taxation (Superannuation).
Admission is available to students with a first degree from a nationally accredited undergraduate program (or equivalent) in Architecture, together with evidence of a capacity to consistently achieve grades at credit level or higher. It is assumed applicants will also have had six months’ work experience in an architectural practice.

A Masters by Research program requires students to undertake an original investigation. In comparison to a doctorate however, this investigation is generally more limited in scope and degree of originality. The work is closely supervised in the early problem formulation stages and whenever a new technique is being used. The program requires the submission of a thesis embodying the results of an original investigation or design.
The minimum requirement for Postgraduate Research Degree (PhD, Master by Research or MPhil) is an appropriate undergraduate degree, usually at honours level, in a field represented within UNSW Built Environment, or another appropriate discipline. In exceptional cases students may be admitted on the basis of professional experience.
The minimum entry requirement will be an undergraduate degree in medicine, nursing or health science and:
? a Bachelor Honours Degree, Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma or Higher Qualification; or
? commencement or completion of a recognised Medicine postgraduate vocational training program; or
? 2 years relevant postgraduate professional experience in medicine, nursing or health science.

Women's Health Medicine is a rapidly expanding and diverse field of practice. It encompasses the timely provision of sexual and reproductive care, pre-pregnancy and pregnancy care as well as the management of female specific conditions and malignancies. Increasing numbers of medical practitioners are developing special interests in this area – in particular General Practitioners, family planning practitioners and generalist gynaecologists. Significant career opportunities exist for those with demonstrable skills and knowledge in this field. In addition there are similar specialisations emerging in nursing and counselling, and amongst biological scientists. This program offers an entirely web-based study program enabling participants to effectively integrate their learning into their daily professional life without the costly disruption that face-to-face coursework entails. Individual courses within the Program have been developed so as to provide a practice-based and authentic approach to this field of study.

Buildings and urban environments represent a major source of human impact on natural ecosystems and sustainable development has now become a major concern of urban policy and development. There is an increased demand for built environment and related professionals to develop knowledge and skills appropriate to sustainable development, and an expansion of specialised career opportunities in both the public and private sector.
The program is an advanced interdisciplinary coursework program which provides opportunities for graduates from a wide range of backgrounds (eg: architecture, landscape architecture, urban planning, building, property development, civil engineering, etc.) to improve their knowledge and skills in the application of the principles of sustainable development to the planning, design, construction and management of buildings and the urban environment. While approached from an international perspective, the program places special emphasis on the rapidly developing South East Asian region.
